⭐️Decorate with what you have: Bows from Christmas, yep, those are great. Ribbon, garland, paper streamers. It may not be the themed party of your dreams, but it will signify that it’s a special day.
⭐️ Make an obstacle course: Use all the rooms in your house! Climb under tables, crab crawl down the hall, jump over piles of laundry (like me!), and land in a mountain of pillows!
⭐️ Invite Friends (virtually): Host a zoom meeting with your webcam, where friends can see and hear eachother. Best of all, it is free!
⭐️ Have a dance party: Youtube is an endless vortex of dance tutorials, and if you have an old Wii or an Xbox, put those old dance games to use and bust a move! If you’re really competitive, have a parents vs. kids dance–off!
⭐️ Create a Scavenger Hunt: Who doesn’t love a good scavenger hunt with a treasure at the end? Hide sticky notes as clues all over the house. Start simple, like “Go to where the umbrellas are kept” and work your way around the house. Don’t forget to use the outdoors if weather permits it.
⭐️ Bake something special: Use this time to make a special treat, and involve the kids too. If you can make a cake, even better! Have your little people help with the decorating, and licking the spoon.
⭐️ Order Delivery: Have your child pick their favourite restaurant and order take out or delivery. This means no cooking for you, and also supporting a local business. Double win!
⭐️ Get dressed up: Feeling like having a superhero party? Make some costumes for the whole family! If you haven’t worn anything with a waistband lately, break out the formal wear, why not? Let the kids choose their own style, or dress themselves.
⭐️ Have a backwards birthday: Make it a memorable day because it will be different than the current “Normal”. Eat cake and Ice cream for breakfast, wear clothes backwards, and put those slippers on the opposite feet because, let’s be honest, anything goes during isolation!
⭐️ Involve the neighbourhood: Get the word out to your local friends that it’s a special day, and ask neighbours to make signs for their windows. Walk around your block and enjoy all the love – at a distance!
